Description

Santa Fe College Community Education will be launching its 5th College for Kids (CFK) Spring Break Space Challenge: Black Holes And Beyond from March 26-29.

Event Details

This year’s program is designed to engage both the students and SF College’s unique resources including an on-campus planetarium. Students in grades 4th-8th will launch into an adventure of a lifetime as they explore the space frontier through hands-on, interactive team activities.

During the four day camp, students will visit the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium. Coordinator and co-host of the PBS TV series Star Gazers, James Albury will conduct a tour of the universe using the latest high definition full dome digital projection system.

Classroom activities will be hands-on and include both collaborative and individual tasks. The future scientists and astronauts will work in teams, building and programming LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robots to perform mock missions on Mars; learn about propulsion systems that power rockets, tackle how to navigate through space via the stars themselves, and engineer and program rovers to explore planets hundreds of light years from Earth. New this year is the Black Box Challenge where students work in teams to innovate designs which meet a challenge in the Mars lab; Cosmic Art, a project combining art and technology, and Astro Challenge where students will be rewarded for their knowledge of space knowledge!
