Father's Day creates an excellent opportunity to plan a fun day out with Dad. There are a host of activities to enjoy in Gainesville, and many of them are tied to the beautiful natural scenery in the area.

The dad who has a passion for nature and history will love a trip to the Florida Museum of Natural History. The Museum is offering a special that day from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; those who purchase a full-price ticket to Butterfly Rainforest and Bats exhibits get a second ticket at half-price!
They have a variety of other exhibits as well as the world's largest collections of butterflies and moths. The museum itself takes you on a journey through five different geologic periods.

The Kanapaha Botanical Gardens has 62 acres of beautiful scenery. The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and all dads receive free admission on Father's Day.
Some of the highlights of the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens include the state's largest bamboo display and the Southeast's largest herb garden. In total, they have 24 major collections available for viewing on a one-and-a-half mile walkway.

The High Springs Museum is hosting Father's Day Blues beginning at 2 p.m. The two-hour show features music from Sheba, the Mississippi Queen, and Jim Allen's Finger Lickin' Blues.
There will also be hors d'oeuvres provided by the The Great Outdoors Restaurant and others. Reservations are required, and a donation of $10 is recommended.
Visitors can tour the 125 acres of Sweetwater Wetlands Park via a three-and-a-half mile trail. Those who come to the park get to see a host of interesting animals like birds, butterflies, alligators, and wild houses.
There are various viewing platforms throughout the park so you can get a better look, and there are tours available. Regular admission to Sweetwater Wetlands Park is $5 per car or $2 per person.
Father's Day Brunch
Taking dad out to a nice Father's Day brunch is always a great idea. Francesca's Trattoria is one good option as they serve brunch classics with some of their favorite Italian dishes.
Leonardo's 706 has been a Gainesville institution since 1976, and they have a brunch buffet that is $21.95. They are also known for their brunch punch and muffin plates that they offer with the purchase of every entree.
