The city of Dunnellon was platted in the late 1880's and was incorporated in 1891 after High Grade hard rock phosphate was discovered nearby. Dunnellon turned into Florida's genuine BOOMTOWN and became the industrial capital of the 1890's into the 1910's. The Historic Village Shoppes are within Dunnellon's Historic District, many of the buildings date back to those Victorian 'Boomtown Days'.
