Event Details

Enjoy great art, light refreshments and the opportunity to meet the curator! The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 16th, 2019 at Ocala City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Arts on Deck” is Briggs’ massive group exhibition brainchild spawned from what he felt would inevitably bring the widest variety of artists together into a unified whole. Using a skateboard deck as the canvas, artists of all mediums and practices could participate and mutually celebrate each other’s work in one large scale collective showing.

As the artist in residence for a corner of Jacksonville’s urban core locally referred to as “The Elbow”, Scotty Briggs has curated dozens of group exhibitions in this highly trafficked communal space. After months of only showing his own work, Briggs decided to branch out and offer monthly opportunities for other local artists as a means of strengthening the arts community in the greater Jacksonville area.

Scotty is very excited to bring “Arts on Deck” to Ocala and hopes that it will generate a stronger appreciation for the arts by bringing in community members from all different walks of life.

Scotty Briggs is a native Floridian who has been working, creating and aesthetically ‘better-ing’ the Jacksonville area for over ten years. He began his career spray painting in back alleys then moved onto working traditionally in acrylic paint on canvas He currently focuses on alternative processes using mixed media on a much larger scale. His work is bold, colorful, fun, and masterfully executed in a contemporary style that is all his own.

Briggs believes in breaking boundaries, and is a major proponent of continuing his own education and experiences by constantly learning and experimenting outside the box. He hopes to promote the ideal of ‘art for arts’ sake’ and genuinely enjoys the journey and the process of creating almost, if not just as much, as the outcome.
