Native Written by Ian Finley | Directed by Serena Ebhardt Native is based on the true story of the collaboration between Paul Green, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, and Richard Wright, African-American author of Native Son.

The two men are brought together in 1941 to adapt Wright’s novel for the Broadway stage. In spite of their common goal to affect social change, a battle ensues between Wright and Green. In a scintillating exchange about who has the right to tell a story of race, politics and social class, the seeds are planted for authentic exchange about recent events in our current world. It stars two Equity Actors, David zum Brunnen as Paul Green and J. Mardrice as Richard Wright.

Since it first premiered on Broadway in March of 1941 (the setting for Native), there have been numerous stagings of the play (with different adaptations) in the United States–– and beyond. All have received a range of reception from audiences and critics alike. All have strongly affirmed the impact of Wright's novel Native Son over time to the present day.
Now the impact of Ian Finley's Native–– the story of two renowned writers (one black, one white) who originally partnered to bring the story to the stage–– has resonated in each community where it has appeared over the past two years, now that EbzB Productions' touring has begun in earnest.
