B3 Gym will be honoring the men and women who lost their lives while serving our country with our annual Memorial Day MURPH event. The event will include a workout and BBQ, and will also serve as a fundraiser for the Jonathan Cote Memorial Scholarship.
Event Details
This scholarship aids veterans at Santa Fe College and the University of Florida in paying for semester tuition and books. The scholarship was started by Chris Marhefka, owner of B3 Gym, in honor of his friend, Jonathan Cote, who was killed in action overseas in 2006.
The workout "Murph" is named in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after being killed in action in Afghanistan. While conducting operations in the mountains of Afghanistan, his team was discovered by enemy forces and ended up outnumbered in a firefight in the extreme and mountainous terrain. As he and his teammates all suffered major injuries, including mortal wounds for most of the team, Lieutenant Murphy fought his way out of cover and into open ground to transmit his team's location and call for support. Lieutenant Murphy purposefully left cover and relative safety for open ground to call for help and in the process was mortally wounded but continued to engage the enemy until he was finally killed.

**Rx is performed with a 20lb weight vest. Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Scaling options will be provided!
We'll be performing the workout in different heats and we encourage athletes of all fitness levels to participate!After the workout, we will have a short reception to socialize and grill out!
There is a $20 registration fee to participate in the workout and 100% of the proceeds go towards the Jonathan Cote Memorial Scholarship. Active military will need to register, but will not need to pay the registration fee to participate in the workout.
Tank tops will also be available for purchase for $20. Select your size during registration. Limited sizes will be available for purchase at the event. Deadline for pre-order is Wed. May 16th.
