Father's Day creates an excellent opportunity to plan a fun day out with Dad. There are a host of activities to enjoy in Gainesville, and many of them are tied to the beautiful natural scenery in the area.

The dad who has a passion for nature and history will love a trip to the Florida Museum of Natural History. They have a variety of other exhibits as well as the world's largest collections of butterflies and moths. The museum itself takes you on a journey through five different geologic periods.

The Kanapaha Botanical Gardens has 62 acres of beautiful scenery. The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and all dads receive free admission on Father's Day.

Some of the highlights of the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens include the state's largest bamboo display and the Southeast's largest herb garden. In total, they have 24 major collections available for viewing on a one-and-a-half mile walkway.

Visitors can tour the 125 acres of Sweetwater Wetlands Park via a three-and-a-half mile trail. Those who come to the park get to see a host of interesting animals like birds, butterflies, alligators, and wild houses.

There are various viewing platforms throughout the park so you can get a better look, and there are tours available. Regular admission to Sweetwater Wetlands Park is $5 per car or $2 per person.
